Abstract :

The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 3-hydroxyacetophenone were recorded and analyzed. The vibrational wavenumbers were calculated using HF and DFT methods. The predicted infrared intensities and Raman activities are reported. The calculated first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is high and the title compound is an attractive object for future studies of non linear optical properties. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies are -8.868 and -5.469 eV.

Abstract :

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of methyl trimethyl acetate were recorded and analyzed. The vibrational wavenumbers were computing at HF and DFT levels. The data obtained from theoretical calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained experimentally. The results indicate that DFT method is able to provide satisfactory results for predicting vibrational frequencies. The predicted infrared intensities and Raman activities are reported. The calculated first hyperpolarizability value shows that the title compound is suitable for nonlinear optical studies.

Effects of slip and heat transfer on the peristaltic flow of MHD Carreau fluid
*Y. RAJESH YADAV and **V. VASU
Abstract :

Effects of slip and heat transfer on the peristaltic flow of MHD Carreau fluid is studied under long wave length and low Reynolds number assumptions. The channel asymmetry produced by choosing the different peristaltic wave train likely sinusoidal, triangle, square, trapezoidal and sawtooth. The nonlinear governing equations are solved using a perturbation technique based on small Weissenberg number. Expressions for the stream function, pressure gradient, temperature distribution, axial induced magnetic force function and shear stress on the wall are obtained. The effects of different parameters entering into problem are discussed numerically and explained graphically. We concluded that size of the bolus decreases with increasing Hartmann number M and partial slip  .

Unsteady flow of Walter’s visco-elastic fluid through porous medium in a long uniform rectangular channel
MANOJ KUMAR ARYA, RAVINDRA KUMAR and K. K. SINGH
Abstract :

The unsteady flow of Walter’s visco-elastic fluid through porous medium in a long uniform straight channel of rectangular crosssection under the influence of time varying pressure gradient has been studied. The exact solution for the velocity of fluid has been obtained by using integral transform technique. Some particular cases of pressure gradient have been discussed in detail. Also we have discussed the case when porous medium is withdrawn. Besides, the corresponding viscous flow problem has been derived as a limiting case when the relaxation time parameter tends to become zero. We have also derived the case when porous medium is withdrawn i.e. if K   .

R. RENJITH1, RAJEEV. T. ULAHANNAN1, J.B. BHAGYASREE1, HEMA TRESA VARGHESE2 and C. YOHANNAN PANICKER1
Abstract :

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of the title compound have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. The geometry optimization has been carried out using HF and DFT levels. The data obtained from vibrational wavenumber calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in IR and Raman spectroscopy of the studied molecule. The calculated infrared intensities and Raman activities are reported. The calculated first hyperpolarizability value shows that the title compound is suitable for nonlinear optical studies. From the HOMO and LUMO analysis, the hardness value of the title compound is 2.868 eV and we conclude that the title compound belongs to hard material.

Sunspot numbers in relation with geomagnetic activity
BALENDRA PRATAP SINGH1 and ACHYUT PANDEYA2
Abstract :

We have correlated sunspot number (Rz) with geomagnetic Ap and Kp indices for the period 2006 to 2011, and shown to be positively correlated with coefficient of correlation for sunspot no. vs. geomagnetic disturbance index Ap (r = 0.3528) and for sunspot no. vs. geomagnetic activity index Kp (r = 0.3131), and we have concluded that, if number of sunspots increases then there will be an increase in the value of geomagnetic Ap and Kp indices, i.e. geomagnetic disturbance level will be increased, and If number of sunspots decreases then the value of geomagnetic Ap & Kp indices also decreases, and geomagnetic disturbance level will be decreased.

Study of Effects of Cryogenic Treatment and Heat Treatment on the Friction and Wear Behavior of AISI A2 Tool Steel Under Dry Sliding Condition
VANDANA JHA1 and PRABHASH JAIN2
Abstract :

The wear and friction may cause failure of industrial component which in turn may increase the production cost. It is important for a tool material to possess good wear resistance, toughness and other mechanical properties so as to reduce the failure. In this work, the effect of cryogenic treatment on the mechanical properties of AISI A2 tool steel is analyzed as cryogenic treatment enhances the mechanical properties of steel. The present investigation covers the study of friction and wear behavior of cryogenic treated and heated treated samples of AISI A2 tool steel under dry sliding condition. This study is the comparative study which shows the enhancement of mechanical properties by cryogenic treatment on samples versus untreated (heat treated) samples. The friction and wear results of the sliding test on heat treated and cryogenic treated specimens using pin on roller configuration showed that the cryogenic treatment increases the wear resistance and reduces the coefficient of friction of AISI A2 tool steel in comparison to heat treatment.

Determination of expected time to recruitment when backup resource of manpower exists
N. VIJAYASANKAR, R. ELANGOVAN and R. SATHIYAMOORTHI
Abstract :

In any organization the exit of personnel is likely to occur especially when the policy decisions regarding pay, perquisites and targets are announced. Immediately after the exit of personnel the recruitment cannot be introduced because it is time consuming and costly. Frequent recruitments are also not desirable. So the recruitment is made only after the cumulative loss of manpower due to exit of personnel on successive occasion crosses a level called the threshold. The magnitude of the threshold is supplemented by a backup or the reserve of manpower resource. Assuming that the time intervals between successive decision epochs are random variables and the threshold level is also a random variable, the expected time to recruitment is attained as a tool for forecast of the likely time at which recruitment becomes necessary Numerical illustrations is also provided.

*NARKE S.Y. and ** MAJ. KORE N.S.
Abstract :

The present paper aims to evaluate the development potentialities of the towns of Ahmednagar district. The entire paper is based on secondary source of data. Data has been processed by applying quantitative techniques such as mean, standard Deviation, Centrality Index etc. For this research purpose a tahsil unit of urban centre is considered. A comparative rank order as per population and cumulative potentiality score reveals that Ahmednagar, Sangamner, Shrirampur, Rahuri and Kopargaon are stood first, second, third, fourth and fifth rank respectively.

The comparison of Heavy metal concentration in commercial marine fish collected from Red sea and Arabian Gulf in between 2009-2013, with reference to national and international standards
I. N. AL-SUWITI and K. A. HASAYEN
Abstract :

An assessment of marine contamination due to heavy metals was made in Arabian Gulf and Red sea based on marine fish during (2009) and (2013). The concentration of three heavy metals Zn, Cd, and Pb on top predator fish commonly consumed in the region were < 0.4 μg g-1 and posed no threat to public health. High Cd concentration (up to 140 μg g-1) was found in the liver in all collected fish.
